The City of Rancho Cordova acquired the historic Mathew Kilgore Cemetery located on Kilgore Road between Trade Center Drive and Sun Center Drive in August 2005. The City wanted to address long-term issues such as security, improving the existing roadway, improved landscaping, creating an entrance to the cemetery from Kilgore Road, and researching the feasibility of establishing a Rancho Cordova Cemetery District.
MGE Engineering was retained by the City of Rancho Cordova to provide engineering design for site improvements at the Cemetery. The work included the preparation of construction documents necessary to successfully advertise, bid, award and construct improvements. Civil/site improvements included: perimeter fencing, a small parking lot, a new encroachment to Kilgore Road, rehabilitation and extension of existing on-site paved paths, ash remains wall, public and service entries, storm drainage and minor grading. MGE also provided the civil and landscape architecture design services for over 3 acres of landscape and hardscape improvements to meet the needs of the City of Rancho Cordova, Kilgore Cemetery and its stakeholders, while protecting and promoting public safety.
Construction Cost: $1 million
This project was completed in 2006 and received the Sacramento Chapter APWA Project of the Year award for Historic Restoration/Preservation
